Campaign 4 Equal Justice

You are invited to the 2017 Access to Justice Awards Celebration!, scheduled for Thursday, November 2 at the Sinclair Community College Ponitz Center starting at 5:30 p.m.  Awards will be presented to four honorees who have worked diligently as advocates for the rights of low-income and disadvantaged people living in the Miami Valley.

The Access to Justice Awards Celebration! is presented annually by the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project (GDVLP), Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), area providers of civil legal aid services. Proceeds will be used by LAWO, ABLE and the GDVLP to provide free legal assistance to low-income clients who are unable to afford an attorney when facing such issues as domestic violence, elder abuse, tenant/landlord and foreclosure issues, disability, health care, and immigration concerns.

About the 2017 Award Recipients:

  • Jane P. Novick, Esq. will receive the Lloyd O’Hara Public Interest Law Award for her dedication to providing legal assistance to people with disabilities and elderly residents by addressing their needs on the basis of human rights and equality.
  • National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) will receive the Patricia Rousseau Community Advocacy Award for helping to build a community of inclusiveness and the growth of its ANYTOWN program that brings youths and police together.
  • The East End Community Services and Jan Lepore-Jentleson is the recipient of the Community Impact Award as an anchor of East Dayton with strong leadership and a broad breadth of services that are innovative and collaborative.
  • The Dayton Legal Heritage Foundation of The Dayton Foundation will be honored with the Distinguished Service Award for providing substantial financial support to ABLE and LAWO that helped them to support the firm’s operational needs, education advocacy services and its 50th anniversary campaign, as well as the GDVLP’s youth initiatives.
